I was wondering what temperature does sweetened condensed milk have to be in order for it to turn into caramel if I was making it on the stove top or if I was using it in a recipe (like the eagle brand magic cookie bars recipe) and baking the recipe in the oven, like at 350 degrees? and how long does it take for it to turn into caramel?
Here’s the link to Eagle Brand’s recipes. It says you can make a caramel sauce in the oven, stove top or microwave and gives you the directions for each. But this is for a caramel SAUCE not hard like a caramel candy. They have lots of other recipes using the sweetened condensed milk. You can review them to get an idea for an answer to your question.

I just ordered a huge gift package of baked goods to send to my boyfriend who’s in college.(It’s called the “new delux bakery tower”; you could check it out on their website and tell me what you think!) I have never ordered from them, or even tried their food before. Is it good? Has anyone ever ordered from them before?
Do you think my boyfriend will like it? (I hope so…he always says that he appreciates “thoughtful and sentimental” gifts the most..what if he doesn’t like it?:(
I never got one! : >(
I wish I did! They look so great!

Snowed in and bored…any baking recipes to kill the time?
I am pretty much snowed in with my 8 1/2 month old son until my hubby gets home tonight from work. I’m kind of bored and want to get some baking done to add to the holiday spirit. As I am snowed in my ingredients are limited. I have the following on hand:
Flour
Confectioners sugar
brown sugar
sugar
cinnamon
ginger (ground)
marshmallows (2 cups)
popcorn
bisquick (only 2 cups)
milk
2 eggs
Irish Creme liquer
butter
Variety of other liquor
I am not looking to make a masterpeice, just something for a tasty holiday snack. Any suggestions? The easier the better, especially if I can involve my 8 month old! Thanks
Your could make shortbread cookies, and cut them out with different shapes just like sugar cookies. Then, you can make frosting to decorate them.
Shortbread Cookies
2 cups Unsalted butter, softened
1 cup Sugar
4 cups Flour
¼ teaspoon Salt
1. Cream butter and sugar in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in flour and salt. Knead the dough briefly until smooth. If dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour. (Dough can be refrigerated up to several days; soften slightly before shaping cookies.)
2. Heat oven to 325℉. Have ungreased baking sheets ready.
3. Pat half of the dough out on lightly floured surface to ½-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. Place cookies 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake until light brown on edges, 20 to 25 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
Flavored Icing
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
1 teaspoon rum flavored extract (or use the real thing, no rum then improvise)
1 tablespoon hot water
1. Heat butter and milk over a low heat. When melted remove from heat.
2. Stir sugar and rum extract into the butter and milk mixture. Use hot water to thin the icing to your desired consistency.

There are few desserts in the world of sweets more alluring that cheesecake. A good baked cheesecake recipe can provide a dessert that will make a bad meal into a good memory, and make a good meal into an event that will be talked about for years. A slice of baked cheesecake, especially New York style, is perfection itself. The creamy texture, the subtle flavors and the richness combine on the palate to make dessert truly the great finish to the meal.
You might be tempted at some point, however, to explore a simpler way to make your cheesecake. The baked cheesecake recipe, while simple, can be unforgiving at times, and it only takes a couple of failures to send even the most intrepid of home cooks looking for alternatives. What they soon find, however, is that there really is no adequate substitute for the creamy richness of the baked version.
There are no-bake cheesecake recipes in great supply on the Internet, and you are more than welcome to be adventurous and try one. Before you serve one to your dinner guests, however, you would be well advised to make one just for in-home consumption. Why?
The answer is quite simple: There is not a single no-bake cheesecake recipe in existence that will give you anything approaching what you get when you go through the effort of producing a baked cheesecake. Most of the no-bake recipes rely on some sort of gelatin to thicken the mix, or they mix in whipped cream to try to mimic the texture of the baked product. While both options produce a generally edible end product, in the immortal words of Snoopy there are like “giving a starving dog a rubber bone.”
If you are going to cook a great meal, and put a lot of effort into it, why go cheap on your dessert? Putting forth the effort to follow a baked cheesecake recipe is worth it every time.
