Kids Baking Gift Bags
An idea for my nieces b-day gift, please!?
I have a niece that is turning seven within the next few days, and I need an idea on what to get her for her gift! She is a sweet, very mature little girl (very smart and very polite). I don’t mind spending a little extra on her (maybe 50-60 bucks or a bunch of inexpensive things thrown together); she is also my husband’s Godchild. I am looking for some neat ideas. Can you please throw some ideas at me that your little girl loves playing with or something that you loved when you were a kid? Thank so much!
P.S. I have thought of an American Girl Doll, easy bake oven, jewelry, nail polish, bean bag, sleeping bag — but she has all these things already! I would greatly appreciate some help!
you could get her an American girl accessory. There are sooo many and if you go on americangirl.com/shop you can browse through. I personally suggest bigger things unlike shoes and fake food because they are very easy to lose, even me at 11 years old it is still hard enough on me to keep it all together and organized. do you think i could be a pastry chef?
im thinking of going to a culinary school to be a pastry chef after i graduate college
i dont have a whole lot of experience baking anything other than breads, pies and cakes and other desserts
but i absolutely love the idea of making those big extravagant wedding cakes
i used to take ceramics so i love molding anything with my hands
im a good painter and i have a creative flare
all in all i think baking cakes and fancy desserts is a combination of my favorite things; art, baking, beauty and taste
so when i start culinary school do they expect me to already have a lot of experience or not?

I entered there school with basic food service experience-enough to know common sense and sanitation
I knew nothing about baking except what i did at home
You will be fantastic great if you go to school there-if you truly have a passion for baking……plus theres the added benefit is that you can eat what you make

What’s a cute homemade gift I can make for my 17 yr old friend?
We did secret santa and i got my best friend. our limit is $50 and i already went over, i got a personalized picture frame and a vera bradley bag. i want to make something cute for her i was thinking a recipe in a jar or something? those are cute.

You can make her a CD with some of her favorite songs. There may be some that she doesn’t already have and there may be some that have those make you laugh memories. I know when I was 17 my friends and I had a bunch of songs that would make us laugh because it reminded us of a fun time we had.

Baking Flat Top Cakes
help with baking cake for cake decorating?
I live in colorado and want to start a small cake business, When i have made cakes in the past they always are kinda humped in the middle after done where it has risen but how do i get my cakes to be completely flat like on the shows ? do i just cut the top to make it flat or?
The hump can be prevented from forming.
The reason you get a hump is because: the sides of the cake pan get very hot and cook the cake around the edges, next to the pan, before the batter gets a chance to rise all the way to the top of the pan. The center of your cake continues to rise…forming a dome.
What you have to do is…keep the sides of the pan cooler so the cake has time to rise to the top of the pan before it cooks.
The way to do this is to take a damp (not drippy wet) strip of towel and wrap it around the sides of the pan and secure the end with a metal safety pin. This works awesome and your cake will be completely flat.

I have been a professional cake decorator for over 30 years. This method works for a level cake every time…plus the texture of your cake is uniform as the sides and center rise the same. If you just push the center of the cake down then it is going to be more compact than what the edges are and if you just cut the dome off then the center of the cake is still going to be a lighter texture than what the edges of the cake are. The towel method is the only way to assure that your cake will rise the same all the way across your pan.
It does help if you get a heavy cake pan to bake in. Parrish Magic line is a terrific cake pan and I find I don’t even have to use the towels on it. Those sides stay cool on it.
