Baking Fresh Ham Recipe

baking fresh ham recipe
Help! I want to cook some sort of meat for Thanksgiving dinner, but I have no knowledge or experience…?

of how to buy meats (at all), how to pick the freshest one, nor have I ever cooked any type of meat. My parents and I are both vegetarians, but my outer-relations eat meat and we are having Thanksgiving dinner with them this year.

I have a few recipes from a autumn cookbook that I thought sounded interesting.
A Harvest Home Roast Turkey or
An Apricot-Glazed Baked Ham

Have you ever had one of these before? Are they good or disgusting? Can you please give me some tips and ideas?

The turkey calls for a 15 lb. thawed turkey, garlic, seasoning salt, onions, parsley, thyme sprigs, fresh sage leaves, and olive oil.

How do you thaw a turkey?

The ham calls for all-purpose flour, a 7 lb fully-cooked ham, jar apricot preserves, spicy brown mustard, packed brown sugar, and orange juice.

Do I buy a fully cooked ham or do I buy a raw one and cook it before baking it? If I need to cook it, how do I do that?

Either will be fantastic! Trust me on this, turkies are very easy to make. All you do is clean out the gizzards (you can make giblet rice or gravy with them after boiled)—Season it w/ your preference, then toss in a shallow baking or roasting pan at 325oF—there is a turkey hotline you can call 24/7, they are fantastic! It’s so many hours per pound, check a cookook for the right amt, but you will know when it’s done, as the skin between the legs turn like crepe mache Do not forget tho to baste it every so oft, like every 20 mins….and don’t discard the carcass as you can make a delish turkey rice or noodle soup.

Ham—VERY easy to do—as a matter a fact, the best ham is smoked w/ a glaze, & it’s best served at room temp, so you wouldn’t have to bake it at all. Do you have a Heavenly Ham store near you? If not, unbelieveably alot of times the store brand is the best! That may be your easiest route to go. ALL these companies w/ their smoked/glazed hams recommend it’s best room temp, as they are fully cooked.

You will do fine, I am sure of it. Bon Appetite! I know your T-Day will be a great success!
